7 Steps of Fighting Fear

 One of the primal feelings of human is fear. Be it fear of being alone, or losing someone, or feeling afraid of the crowd or standing against someone, fear feels bad.

One may feel afraid of living creatures or inanimate things, or events. Basically, one feels fear when he doesn’t feel secure, when he senses danger. When someone says that s/he fears nothing, that is a lie, except of course if the person has attended nirvana.

So we fear things and get frightened, what next?

Trying to pacify oneself works best in these situations, calming oneself, saying that everything will be fine will work in most situations.
Since fear is a protective mechanism of our body, one must try to eliminate the cause of it. Carrying out actions against fear is a good way to reduce our anxiety instantly. For example, if we fear darkness, isn’t it better to light up the room instead of staying in a corner drenched in fear? Another example is reaching out police when someone is following you.
3. Having courage to do things that is needed to be done despite one’s fear is a necessity in many situation. Many of us have difficulty in addressing the people who trouble us just because we fear to do so. One word with the troublesome people may put us out of a problematic situation in some cases. Taking a deep breath and speaking calmly must be done.

4. Adequate preparation is important to reduce fear and anxiety and boost confidence. This is specially true when we face exams.

5. Feeding in inspirational words help us during our hard times. We are not the only one to be afraid of certain things. With the help of Internet, it is possible to read experiences of people like us and the things they did to overcome their fear.

6. Talking about our fears with our beloved ones will help to reduce them. They may even know measures of eliminating our fears.

7. There is always the option of sorting help from a professional- psychologist, hypnotherapist or psychiatrist. One must immediately do so when the fear is debilitating.
